Who I Am

Without realizing it, my thoughts about photography and other visual arts began when I was only 6 years old while living in an orphanage in Rudnyy, Kazakhstan, a sparsely inhabited, dark and dreary country located in central Asia. In 2003, I began my journey to a new beautiful country, America, with my new parents. My life in the orphanage was a gloomy, dull black and white photograph. I longed for the rest of my life to be a spectacular color photograph – a kaleidoscope. This was genesis of my passion for visual art.

I use photography and film as a means to document the world around me. I use the changing light of day to stimulate my mood and create visual dreams. I use portrait photography and film to forge new relationships and tell stories of interesting people that I observe in the world around me. While shooting a photograph or creating a film, I create drama by using just the right amount of light and darkness.

I continue to pursue my passion through my current position as Assistant Photographer for the University of Florida Athletic Association and as a freelance photographer, videographer, and filmmaker in Gainesville and South Florida. There are great moments waiting to be discovered everywhere, every day and I always have an eye out for that electrifying image.
